SUMMARY:Tim O'Brien and Jan Fabricius
DESCRIPTION:September 19th – Tim OBrien and his wife Jan Fabricius have performed together nationally and internationally since 2015. The original songs on their new release Paper Flowers offer tangible proof of a deep collaboration\, and serve as a narrative of the couples life together. \nTim OBrien might operate a bit under music business radar\, but he has been an essential part of the fabric of the folk\, bluegrass\, and Americana scenes for the past fifty years. Since his emergence as singer\, instrumentalist\, and songwriter with the iconic 1980s bluegrass group Hot Rize\, the West Virginia native has continued down a diverse and constantly evolving musical pathway. In the process he has written songs for people like Garth Brooks and the Dixie Chicks\, released rootsy classics like Red on Blonde and The Crossing\, and earned a few Grammy awards. \nA registered nurse from Kansas\, Fabricius started dating OBrien in 2011. After moving to Nashville in 2013\, she took a crash course in the music business as tour manager. OBrien describes their musical evolution\, Jan started adding harmony vocals and mandolin to shows and recordings soon after we became a couple. We would play music around the house\, and she would learn new songs as I wrote them. Then soon enough we started writing together. OBriens two most recent releases\, He Walked On and Cup of Sugar include songs cowritten with Fabricius. \nWhen Cathy Fink and Jon Weisberger approached OBrien in 2023 to contribute to what became 2024s Bluegrass Sings Paxton\, Tim and Jan wrote the song You Took Me In\, with the man himself. Encouraged by the results\, the three scheduled weekly Zoom co writing sessions and the songs kept coming. Paper Flowers includes twelve of those songs as well as three more originals. \nTim and Jan perform as duo and in a band setting with bassist Mike Bub and fiddler Shad Cobb. Both live in the studio\, they present an acoustic music roots repertoire that is at once both original and traditional. \nGeneral Admission: 40.00\nBar area opens at 7pm\nMain Concert Hall at 7:30pm\nMusic at 8pm

SUMMARY:The Faux Paws
DESCRIPTION:September 12th – The Faux Paws \nFrom raging fiddle tunes\, to saxophone solos and unrequited love songs\, the music of The Faux Paws would be hard to pin down with standard genre descriptions. The trio’s contagious groove\, and feel-good melting pot folk music has been honed over ten years of playing together\, and is the sound of three close friends (two of which happen to be brothers)\, who feel a musical kinship that transcends any stylistic limitations. Now\, after nearly a decade of music making\, the bi-coastal trio are releasing their self-titled debut album “The Faux Paws” \nBrothers Andrew and Noah VanNorstrand grew up playing contra dance music with their musician mother in the band Great Bear. Chris Miller grew up in Florida\, and he was enamored with bluegrass\, and studied jazz before going on to play with GRAMMY nominated Cajun-country band The Revelers. Since meeting in 2012\, the trio have toured across North America several times\, sometimes under the name The Faux Paws\, sometimes as part of other larger ensembles. But due to their commitments to other bands and musical projects\, the timing was never right to focus on making The Faux Paws a priority. Instead\, they took their time learning about different styles of music from one another\, and finding where their interests and skills could create unexpected and exciting new sounds. “I love super glossy pop music\, and Chris is always pushing more of a jazz influence” says Noah.. “But we all have a strong background in dance music\, so almost everything we do has rhythm and groove\, and is based around hook and feel”. \nIt may have taken The Faux Paws ten years to make their debut album\, but those years have clearly not gone to waste. Now\, with an experimental but cohesive vision\, the trio brings together seemingly unrelated musical elements into one joyful and distinctive collection\, deeply rooted in the raw humanity of folk dance and music traditions. \nGeneral Admission: 20.00 \nBar area opens at 7pm \nConcert Hall doors open at 7:30pm \nMusic at 8pm

SUMMARY:The Mammals
DESCRIPTION:July 10th – The Mammals are folksingers Ruth Ungar\, Mike Merenda\, and a dynamic quintet of multi-instrumentalists whose sound spans fiddle\, banjo\, guitar\, organ\, bass\, and drums. Over two decades\, this fiercely independent band has built a legacy of genre-defying\, politically charged\, and emotionally resonant folk-rock praised as “some of the best songwriting of their generation” (LA Times). Their music resonates with urgency and tenderness—amplifying the voices of conscience\, connection\, and the full spectrum of human experience. \nHailing from New York’s Hudson Valley\, The Mammals emerged in the early 2000s as “subversive acoustic traditionalists” (Boston Globe)\, blending old-timey roots with lyrical fire and magnetic force. After a period of redefinition as Mike + Ruthy\, the band reemerged in 2017 and have since continued to forge music that is as topical as it is timeless. The Washington Post writes\, “They don’t suffer from multiple genre syndrome—they celebrate it.” \nTheir forthcoming 2025 double album Touch Grass Vol. 1 & 2 marks the band’s most expansive offering to date. A lyrical wake-up call and a tender salve\, the album was recorded at their own Humble Abode Music studio over four years. Produced by the band and mastered by Greg Calbi\, Touch Grass pulses with Americana soul\, front-porch folk\, and barn-burning electricity. Volume 1 channels defiant spirit with tracks like “Unpopular Ideas” and “Rolling Stone Refugee\,” while Volume 2 invites introspection and healing with meditative songs like “Luna Light” and “Heal Our Heart.” “Doing good doesn’t have to mean do more\,” they sing—reminding us that kindness and community are forms of resistance. \nTheir previous release\, Nonet (2020)\, was hailed as a landmark album that “marshals the defiant spirit needed to heal a damaged world” (No Depression)\, and the band continues to evolve with their sound\, touring internationally and maintaining a vibrant creative base in the Catskills. Twice a year\, The Mammals host The Hoot\, a spirited folk festival they curate at The Ashokan Center\, a nod to Ruth’s musical heritage—she’s the daughter of legendary fiddler Jay Ungar\, composer of “Ashokan Farewell.” \nWith praise from fans\, press\, and peers including Anaïs Mitchell (“a national treasure”)\, The Mammals remain in the vanguard of today’s folk revival—musical storytellers rooted in empathy\, joy\, and fierce authenticity. \n“Some of the best songwriting of their generation.” – LA Times\n”A party band with a conscience” – Boston Globe \n“Some of the best folk-rock music you will ever hear.” – TapeOp \n“In the vanguard of today’s vibrant folk revival” – PopMatters \n“These two will shatter any preconceived stereotypical notions of what it means to be a folk musician.” – Coastal Journal \nGeneral Admission – 25.00\nBar area opens at 7pm\nConcert Hall opens at 7:30pm\nMusic at 8pm

SUMMARY:Buffalo Nichols
DESCRIPTION:June 22nd- Buffalo Nichols\nSince his earliest infatuations with guitar\, Buffalo Nichols has asked himself the same question: How can I bring the blues of the past into the future? After cutting his teeth between a Baptist church and bars in Milwaukee\, it was a globetrotting trip through West Africa and Europe during a creative down period that began to reveal the answer. \n“Part of my intent\, making myself more comfortable with this release\, is putting more Black stories into the genres of folk and blues\,” guitarist\, songwriter\, and vocalist Carl “Buffalo” Nichols explains. “Listening to this record\, I want more Black people to hear themselves in this music that is truly theirs.” That desire is embodied in his self-titled debut album—Fat Possum’s first solo blues signing in nearly 20 years—composed largely of demos and studio sessions recorded between Wisconsin and Texas. \nBorn in Houston and raised in Milwaukee’s predominantly Black North end\, the guitar was Nichols’ saving grace as a young man. The instrument captured his fascination\, and provided him with an outlet for self-expression and discovery in isolation. While other children chased stardom on the field\, court\, or classroom\, Nichols took to his mother and siblings’ music collections\, searching feverishly for riffs to pick out on his instrument. Sometimes\, this dedication meant listening to a song 200 times in order to wrap his mind around a chord; as a teenager\, it even routinely meant staying home from school to get extra practice. \nStints in college and in the workforce led him overseas\, where the appreciation of African-American folkways lit a renewed spark in Nichols. It was the bustling of jazz in places like the working class areas of Ukraine\, or in Berlin cafes where expatriate Black Americans routinely treat fans to an enchanting evening of blues\, that would lead to his a-ha moment. Nichols returned home to America\, meditating on his own place in the music that holds the country’s truest values and rawest emotions between bar and measure. “Before this trip\, it was hard for me to find that link between all these blues records I heard and people who are living right now. I figured out it’s not a huge commercial thing\, but it still has value. So\, I came home and started playing the blues more seriously\, doing stuff with just me and my guitar\,” Nichols says. \nWhile acknowledging the joy\, exuberance and triumph contained in the blues\, Nichols looks intently at the genre’s origins\, which harken back to complicated and dire circumstances for Black Americans. With this in mind\, Nichols says there is a missing link\, which he’s often used as a compass: Black stories aren’t being told responsibly in the genre anymore. To begin changing that\, Buffalo Nichols gets the chance to tell his own story in the right way. \nGeneral Admission: $32.00\nBar area opens at 7pm\nConcert Hall doors open at 7:30pm\nMusic at 8pm

SUMMARY:Larry & Joe
DESCRIPTION:Larry & Joe – June 19th\nCurrently based in the Triangle of North Carolina\, Larry & Joe are versatile multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters on a mission to show that music has no borders. As a duo\, they perform a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk traditions\, drawing from their diverse musical roots. Their performances feature harp\, banjo\, cuatro\, fiddle\, maracas\, guitar\, upright bass\, and whatever else they decide to throw in the van. Their program is a compelling blend of their respective musical inheritances\, woven together with storytelling that highlights the intersections of music and social movements. \nLarry Bellorín\nLarry was born and raised in Punta de Mata\, in the state of Monagas\, Venezuela. Raised by his mother\, a farmworker with limited means\, Larry began working at the age of six as a shoe shiner. He developed a loyal clientele by singing as he polished\, taking requests for popular Vallenatos of the day. His musical talent soon caught the attention of a local music educator\, who invited him to study at the city’s premiere music school. \nLarry’s first instrument was the cuatro\, a four-string guitar with deep Spanish roots and central to Venezuelan folk music. In Venezuela\, it’s typically the first instrument young folk musicians learn\, and cuatristas are known for their fast\, rhythmically complex strumming. Larry quickly stood out\, and by age 11\, he was supporting himself entirely through music. He soon became proficient on guitar\, electric bass\, mandolin\, and maracas\, and by age 13\, he had mastered a wide range of traditional Venezuelan styles—including valse\, pasaje\, joropo\, and música oriental—earning the distinction of first cuatrista at the local Casa de Cultura. \nOne evening\, after stepping in on cuatro at a pizzeria gig\, Larry met master llanera harpist Urbino Ruiz\, who immediately took him on as an apprentice. After just a month of intensive study\, Larry had learned 40 songs. “I played so much\, I would wake up hunched over my harp\,” he recalls. \nIn 1999\, Urbino invited Larry to perform with him and Venezuelan cultural icon Renaldo Armas at Punta de Mata’s Parque Ferial. Armas—a GRAMMY winner and the country’s most prominent ambassador of Llanera music—was so impressed that after their performance\, he introduced Larry to the crowd of over 8\,000 people as “el maestro Larry Bellorín.” From that moment on\, Larry was respected and known as a master of his craft. \nJoe Troop\nJoe Troop is a multi-instrumentalist\, singer\, and songwriter originally from Winston-Salem\, North Carolina. Best known as the founder of the GRAMMY-nominated string band Che Apalache\, Joe’s musical vision has been deeply shaped by a decade spent living in Buenos Aires and traveling across Latin America. His sound bridges continents\, blending Appalachian roots with a wide range of Latin American traditions. \nWhen the pandemic brought him back to North Carolina in 2020\, Joe turned his attention to social activism\, learning directly from grassroots organizers. That experience helped inspire his 2021 solo album Borrowed Time\, co-produced with Jason Richmond (The Avett Brothers\, Branford Marsalis). The album features collaborations with Béla Fleck (who also produced Che Apalache’s GRAMMY-nominated record)\, Abigail Washburn\, Tim O’Brien\, and Charlie Hunter. Yet it’s Joe’s incisive songwriting and masterful musicianship that truly shine\, offering a heartfelt reflection of his time abroad and his roots in the North Carolina Piedmont. \nNow based in Durham\, Joe leads a variety of ensembles that bring his original music to life\, continuing his mission to use music as a bridge between cultures and a force for social change. \nGeneral Admission: 25.00\nBar area opens at 7pm\nConcert Hall doors open at 7:30pm\nMusic at 8pm

This sound of vocals and dobro unaccompanied is masterfully captured on her 2022 CD “DobroSinger.” The record hit #11 on the Billboard Blues Charts and #2 on the Folk DJ Charts. It’s a raw intimate recording full of blues and heartfelt ballads. Quite a contrast to Wishes on a Neon Sign (2018) which featured a co-write with Chris Stapleton and leaned on full band production. Though she has traveled around the world with Red Molly\, Abbie stands strong as a solo act and has opened for Lori McKenna\, Hot Rize\, and Martina McBride. \n“DobroSinger is a naked little roller coaster of an album\, when we get to hear how good Abbie Gardner really is. By turns awkward\, raucous\, fragile\, and forceful\, it sounds like Abbie is in the room with me\, maybe sharing a stage and\, honestly\, I don’t want to follow her. Nobody wants to follow her.”\n– Jonathan Byrd\, Songwriter & Performer \nGeneral Admission : 25.00 \nBar area opens at 7pm\nMain Concert Hall doors open at 7:30pm\nMusic at 8pm

SUMMARY:The Numbers Band
DESCRIPTION:May 31st – 15 60 75 The Numbers Band has been praised by almost every national music publication and several international publications since the beginning of their 50 years of live performances and recordings. Many fans are under the impression that the band remains obscure by choice. In fact\, they have never been offered a contract from any recording company in the industry\, ever. \nThe music “cannot be categorized”\, “cannot be defined”\, “is too original”. The music industry is not about music anymore. It is about selling products the public can relate to. After all\, it is a business. Even “alternative” music has become a label. The founder of the band\, Robert Kidney\, explains\, “The music industry\, the media\, and the tellsusourvision (TV) are defining for the American public what is good music by only playing and supporting what is profitable. We are taught to disregard everything that is not familiar. We (The Numbers Band) give the people our best. Our effort goes into being creative\, unique and original. We define our own sound. There are no rules because we don’t play the game. We are not in it for the game\, we’re in it for the music. \nIf you grew up in Northeast Ohio\, chances are you’ve heard of The Numbers Band—or at the very least\, their legendary reputation. For over 50 years\, the Kidney Brothers\, Robert and Jack\, have been creating music that defies easy categorization. Blending elements of jazz\, blues\, and rock ‘n’ roll\, their sound is wholly original\, undeniably creative\, and unmistakably The Numbers Band. \nGeneral Admission – 15.00 \nBar are opens at 7pm\nConcert Hall doors open at 7:30\nMusic at 8

SUMMARY:Driftwood
DESCRIPTION:May 30th – Music has guided Driftwood to hallowed ground many times since its founding members\, Joe Kollar and Dan Forsyth\, started making music as high schoolers in Joe’s parents’ basement. Whether the Upstate New York folk rock group—which today also includes violinist Claire Byrne\, bassist Joey Arcuri\, and drummer Sam Fishman—are converting new fans on a hardscrabble tour across the country or playing to a devoted crowd at hero Levon Helm’s Woodstock barn\, the band’s shapeshifting approach to folk music continues to break new ground. \n“Driftwood is basically a beautiful friendship that happens to play music together\,” says Joe. “I know it’s rare. I know I’m lucky to know these people and lean on them and go through these massive life changes together.” For Driftwood\, each song is like a journal entry: cathartic to create\, yes\, but capable of unlocking new lessons—and when shared—forging new bonds. “We’re communal\, right? Humans need to be connected\,” Joe says. “And we get to have this special thing.” \nDoors open at 7:30/ Music at 8pm \nGeneral Admission- 25.00

SUMMARY:David Mayfield Parade - Record Release Party
DESCRIPTION:May 16th – David Mayfield was practically born into bluegrass\, hitting the road at an early age with his family’s band and honing his skills on bass. As a teenager\, he quickly earned a reputation as a standout instrumentalist\, picking up national accolades for his lightning-fast work on guitar and mandolin. His flair for performance began turning heads during his time as a backing player in his sister Jessica Lea Mayfield’s band—most notably during their appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. Even then\, it was clear: Mayfield had a magnetic stage presence and the instincts of a true frontman. \nHe brought that charisma and musicianship to Cadillac Sky\, joining the progressive bluegrass band just as they were sharing stages with Mumford and Sons to sold-out crowds. Around that time\, inspired by songwriting legends like Randy Newman and Simon & Garfunkel\, Mayfield began penning his own material. With encouragement from his sister and friend Seth Avett\, he stepped into the spotlight as a solo artist—and hasn’t looked back. \nSince then\, Mayfield has toured relentlessly\, delivering shows that are equal parts musical showcase and theatrical experience. A born entertainer—a trait nurtured in his family band—he leaves a lasting impression wherever he plays. But beyond the charm and showmanship\, it’s his heartfelt songwriting and masterful musicianship that continue to draw audiences in\, show after show. \nJoin as we celebrate the release of The David Mayfield’s new Record…If you know this band\, you know It will be a party! \nGeneral Admission: 27.00\nDoors to the Bar area open at 7pm\nDoors to the Main Hall open at 7:30pm\nMusic starts at 8pm

SUMMARY:Kieran Kane and Rayna Gellert
DESCRIPTION:May 9th – Kieran and Gellert – Kieran Kane’s seminal work in The O’Kanes and Kane Welch Kaplin\, as well as co-founding the independent label Dead Reckoning Records\, laid the foundation for the contemporary world of Americana music. A successful solo artist\, collaborator\, and songwriter (with songs recorded by Alan Jackson\, John Prine\, Emmylou Harris\, and many more)\, Kieran is a musician’s musician: his playing is always understated\, always groove-oriented\, and always serving the song. \nIf Rayna Gellert seems a preternaturally gifted songwriter\, it’s because she’s seen farther into the old songs than most. Growing up in a musical family\, she turned to Appalachian old-time music at a young age\, becoming a prodigious fiddler and leading a new revival of American stringband music through her work with the acclaimed roots band Uncle Earl. An in-demand collaborator\, she has toured and recorded with artists such as Scott Miller\, Abigail Washburn\, Toubab Krewe\, and Robyn Hitchcock. \nKieran and Rayna first met\, fittingly\, at San Francisco’s celebrated Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival\, which led to their cowriting songs for Kieran’s solo album Unguarded Moments (Dead Reckoning). They joined forces again for Rayna’s 2017 release\, Workin’s Too Hard (StorySound Records)\, which they also co-produced. Their first duo album\, The Ledges\, was released in February of 2018 on Dead Reckoning Records\, followed up quickly by 2019’s When the Sun Goes Down. \nIn 2022\, this “unlikely musical couple” released The Flowers That Bloom in Spring\, which found the duo digging deeper into their exploration of minimalist writing and production. Their fourth album will arrive in the spring of 2025. \nFans of either artist will recognize the musical kindred-spiritedness in their restrained and roots-oriented approach to both songs and arrangements. \nGeneral Admission: 25.00\nBar area opens at 7pm\nDoors to the Main Concert Hall open at 7:30 pm\nMusic at 8pm

SUMMARY:Maya de Vitry
DESCRIPTION:May 8th – Originally from Lancaster\, PA\, Maya de Vitry is a Nashville-based artist whose music blurs the lines of folk\, indie rock\, and Americana. An admirer of the dedicated song craft of writers like John Prine\, Gillian Welch\, and Townes Van Zandt — and of the stirring vocals of artists like Bonnie Raitt and Nina Simone — Maya de Vitry’s music invites listeners into a space of openness and connection. \n\n\n\n\n\nAfter a formative chapter with the roots-Americana trio The Stray Birds\, she launched her solo career with the 2019 album Adaptations\, earning praise from Rolling Stone Country\, NPR Music\, and No Depression. Since then\, she has built a devoted following\, drawn to both her recordings and her powerful live performances. Known for her magnetic voice and hard-won sense of purpose\, Maya has toured in North America and Europe\, supporting artists like The Wood Brothers\, Aoife O’Donovan\, John Craigie\, and Mighty Poplar. Her songs have also appeared on albums by Molly Tuttle\, Lindsay Lou\, and Steve Poltz\, and her skills as a multi-instrumentalist and harmony singer have contributed to many Nashville recordings. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHer fourth full-length release in just six years\, The Only Moment\, is a 10-track testamentto personal reinvention and creative growth. “I’m not just making different music now. It feels like I’m breathing in a different atmosphere\,” she reflects on her evolution from The Stray Birds to her solo journey. Her sense of liberation is especially apparent in her live shows\, which have become a space for spontaneity\, peace\, and freedom\, often woven together with personal stories that connect the songs. “After the show\, I just want to know if I’ve helped you feel more free\,” Maya says. “That’s my unspoken agreement—to myself\, my bandmates\, and everyone in the audience.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDespite a seemingly relentless creative pace\, the recording of The Only Moment—produced by Maya and mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Justin Francis (Madison Cunningham)—was deliberate and unhurried. “It was like making a long-exposure photograph\, but with music\,” Maya explains\, having allowed the songs to breathe over the course of nearly three years. “I shelved this record for months at a time\, and each time I came back to it\, I heard new possibilities. In today’s music industry\, there’s pressure to share everything\, to turn our process into ‘content.’ But I treasured keeping this record to myself and letting the songs simmer.” \nGeneral Admission: 25.00 \nDoors to the bar area open at 7pm\nMain Concert Hall opens at 7:30pm\nMusic at 8pm
