They are partners in life and music\, and the songwriters and musicians behind Chatham Rabbits. \nThey are passionate about \n\nbringing new songs into the world\nmaking sure you leave their concerts feeling better than when you arrived\ncultivating community\ntheir home in North Carolina\ndrinking Cookout milkshakes\, reading David Sedaris\, fly fishing\, riding horses\, hunting arrowheads and having deep convos.\n\nThe name of the band Chatham Rabbits has a deep history with folks from North Carolina and to Sarah and Austin.\nThey named ther band after the wild rabbits that once ran rampant in Chatham County\, North Carolina. Over a century ago\, rabbits were the prized cash crop. Folks would come from all over to hunt and harvest the rabbits. Many decades later\, Sarah and Austin bought mill house in Bynum\, North Carolina\, on the banks of the Haw River. The house was once the home of a mill working family. They played music and the husband was a member of the mill-sponsored stringband\, The Chatham Rabbits. \nWe are excited to welcome Sarah and Austin back to the G.A.R. DESCRIPTION:July 10th – The Mammals are folksingers Ruth Ungar\, Mike Merenda\, and a dynamic quintet of multi-instrumentalists whose sound spans fiddle\, banjo\, guitar\, organ\, bass\, and drums. Over two decades\, this fiercely independent band has built a legacy of genre-defying\, politically charged\, and emotionally resonant folk-rock praised as “some of the best songwriting of their generation” (LA Times). Their music resonates with urgency and tenderness—amplifying the voices of conscience\, connection\, and the full spectrum of human experience. \nHailing from New York’s Hudson Valley\, The Mammals emerged in the early 2000s as “subversive acoustic traditionalists” (Boston Globe)\, blending old-timey roots with lyrical fire and magnetic force. After a period of redefinition as Mike + Ruthy\, the band reemerged in 2017 and have since continued to forge music that is as topical as it is timeless. The Washington Post writes\, “They don’t suffer from multiple genre syndrome—they celebrate it.” \nTheir forthcoming 2025 double album Touch Grass Vol. 1 & 2 marks the band’s most expansive offering to date. A lyrical wake-up call and a tender salve\, the album was recorded at their own Humble Abode Music studio over four years. Produced by the band and mastered by Greg Calbi\, Touch Grass pulses with Americana soul\, front-porch folk\, and barn-burning electricity. Volume 1 channels defiant spirit with tracks like “Unpopular Ideas” and “Rolling Stone Refugee\,” while Volume 2 invites introspection and healing with meditative songs like “Luna Light” and “Heal Our Heart.” “Doing good doesn’t have to mean do more\,” they sing—reminding us that kindness and community are forms of resistance. \nTheir previous release\, Nonet (2020)\, was hailed as a landmark album that “marshals the defiant spirit needed to heal a damaged world” (No Depression)\, and the band continues to evolve with their sound\, touring internationally and maintaining a vibrant creative base in the Catskills. DESCRIPTION:July 19th – Allison de Groot & Tatuana Hagreaves \nAllison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves create a sound that is adventurous\, masterful\, and original\, as they expand on the eccentricities of old songs\, while never losing sight of what makes them endure. \nThey are individually recognized as leaders in the young generation of roots musicians\, de Groot being known for intricate clawhammer banjo work with Bruce Molsky\, and Hargreaves bringing powerhouse fiddling to the stage with Laurie Lewis and David Rawlings in addition to teaching bluegrass fiddle at UNC-Chapel Hill. The duo’s 2022 sophomore album\, Hurricane Clarice reflects history\, family\, literature\, live performance\, and environmental instability in the sounds\, feelings\, and sensations that permeate their music. DESCRIPTION:July 25th – Alla Boara – Alla Boara seeks to bring recognition and new life to Italy’s diverse history of regional folk music. Their modern arrangements of near-extinct folk songs are variously surprising\, playful\, mournful\, tender\, and bewitching. Alla Boara’s dynamic work aims to inspire audiences of all ethnic heritages to treasure their musical roots and consider historical songs’ contemporary cultural relevance. \nThe vision of drummer and composer Anthony Taddeo (Helen Welch/Hey Mavis)\, Alla Boara also features vocalist Amanda Powell (Apollo’s Fire)\, guitarist Dan Bruce\, trumpeter Tommy Lehman\, bassist Ian Kinnaman\, and accordionist and keyboardist Clay Colley. Her first chapbook\, Throughline\, was published in 2024 by Finishing Line Press. She is a 2022 Best of the Net nominee. \nMilenko (Miles) Budimir’s newest book of poems is Licorice Heart  (Roadside Press).He’s also the author of two poetry chapbooks; Departures (Burning River) and  Rustbelt Romance (deep cleveland). During the daytime\, he works as a philosophy lecturer and a technical writer and editor.
